IMPORTANCE OF SILENCE

IMPORTANCE OF SILENCE - The greatest virtue for peace of minds ...The following tips may help to understand the value--
1. There are different kinds of silence-- If you keep this physical body without any movement, if you sit calmly like a statue, it is called Kashta Silence. If you keep the Indriyas quiet, it is Indriya Silence. If you keep the Vach indriya quiet, it is Vach Silence. If you keep the mind absolutely quiet by stopping all theVrittis, it called Sushupti Silence.
2. This is the greatest of all Silence. Brahman is called Sushupti Silence because He is an embodiment of Silence.
3. The organ of speech is a very great distractor of mind. Talkative people cannot enjoy peace of mind. Too much talking indicates that the person is Rajasic.
4. Talking makes the mind outgoing. Silence is practical death fr a worldly person. It is a great blessing for an aspirant. Human finds it difficult to observe Silence in the beginning. A worldly person always wants company and talk.
5. This is his/her nature. Energy is wasted in idle talking and gossiping. Worldly people do not realize this.
6. This energy must be conserved by Silence and utilize for the purposes of divine contemplation. If you once observe Silence for one or two months then you will realize its advantages. Then you yourself will not leave the practice. If Vach Indriya is checked the ye and ears also can come easily under control.
7. Silence develops Will Power, checks the impulse of speech. It is a great help for the observance of truth and control of anger.
8. Emotions are controlled and irritability vanishes. A Silence practitioner will use measured words and his/her speech is very impressive. In ordinary persons there is ot a bit of control of speech. They speak at random whatever they like.
9. They cannot put a check on the current of speech. But a Silence practitioner first thinks whether his/her speech will wound the feelings of others, what sort of impression it will produce on the minds of others and so on. He/She is very careful in her/her speech. He/She is very thoughtful and considerate.
10. He/She weighs every word before it comes out of his/her month. A Silence Practitioner can stay for a long time in seclusion. But a worldly and talkative person cannot stay even for some minutes in solitude. The advantages of Silence are simply indescribable.
11. Practice, feel the peace and enjoy the silence yourself. Busy peole should observe Silence for at lest one hour daily.
12. If you can do for two hours daily it is all the better. Then increase the hour bit by bit. During the practice of Silence you should not show gestures. You
13. can do any work with Silence mood. Your thoughts and actions will glitter always. Don't talk while your are on dinning table.
14. Silence will give more strength to your body and mind. Your concentration power will increase along with Will Power.
15. Fasting also an important virtue in our life. Fasting controls passion. It calms the emotions. It controls the Indriyas also. Fasting is a great Tapas. it purifies the mind, destroys a great multitude of sins. Sastras prescribe Chandrayana Vrita, Krichara Vrita Ekadashi Vrita, Paradosha Vrita for the purification of the mind.
16. Fasting controls particularly the tongue which is your deadly enemy. When you fast do not allow the mind to think of delicious foods. Then you will not derive much benefit. Fasting overhauls the respiratory, circulatory, digestive and urinary systems.
17. It destroys all impurities of the body and all sorts of poisons. It eliminates uric acid deposits. Just as impure gold is rendered pure by melting it in the crucible again and again, so also this impure mind is rendered purer and purer by fasting again and again.
18. You will have very good meditation during fasting,as the mind is calm. The chief object in fasting is to practice Dhyana regorously during that period as all the Indriyas are calm. You will have to withdraw all the Indriyas and fix the mind on God. Avoid excessive fasting. It will produce weakness.
19. Use your common sense. Those who are not able to observe full fast can fast for nine or twelve hours and can take tender coconut water and fruits in the evening or at night.
20. During fasting the internal digestive organs such as stomach, liver pancreas etc., take rest. Epicurean, gluttons and those who are tireless caters do not allow rest for the organs even for a few minutes.
